Preface: It should be stated at the outset that the below does not support the position of "cessationism" — that the "sign gifts" such as healing, have ceased — as (among other truths), that which characterizes the realization of "that which is perfect" (1Cor. 13:10) best corresponds to 1Jn. 3:2. The manifestation of the power of God, which was especially instrumental in evidencing the one true God God to pagans (Rm. 15:18,19), is needed today as it was before the completion of the Bible. The Words of God are pure (Ps. 19:8), and the Scriptures alone are the only substantive transcendent body of revelation that are wholly inspired by God (2Tim. 3:16), and are abundantly evidenced as being the supreme standard for obedience under God and for testing truth claims. However, Scripture itself was established as being the Word God due to its heavenly qualities, effects and supernatural attestation. And as God giveth more grace, He confirms His word with holy effects of regeneration, and manifest providential care, and supernatural attestations, all of which Scripture testifies to and promises. (1Thes. 1:3-6; 2:13; Heb. 6:9; 1Pt. 1:8; Mt. 6:33; Mk. 16:17,18,20; Jn. 14:12; Acts 6:8; 8:6,7) And is yet making His power known by changing hearts and lives, and effecting other miracles, and uses men and women who are given gifts, or "charisms" to be instruments of such. (1Cor 12:8-11) However, charisms do not equate character, or sound doctrine, and while miracles have helped souls who were yielding to light to believe, aberrations work to turn them away. And as we are "not to think of men above that which is written" (1Cor. 4:6), and "one sinner destroyeth much good" (Eccl. 9:18), so the below was written, though I myself overall come short in being the kind of testimony that I should and could have been, and seek to be a better one, to the glory of God.

(Referenced links contained herein document what is written but do not necessarily infer that I agree with a sites entire doctrinal teaching).

Never before has America been given over to the degree of deception that is evident today. From carnal sensuality to love for perverse religions, a nation that once largely identified the God of the Bible as the One she claimed to be under today evidences more than ever that it's god's are the world, the flesh - and even the devil. Having "cast off the thing that is good" (Hos. 8:3) – Jesus Christ and the Word of God – to make ever increasing “provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof” (contra Rm. 13:14), she is (and will be) reaping the corruption that is the fruit of sowing to the flesh (Gal. 6:8). This yielding to carnality and deception has not been absent in the church at-large, but as it increasingly compromises Biblical holiness and truth in exchange for love of the world and unBiblical ecumenism, it finds great numbers following after teachers that will “tickle their ears,” speak “smooth things,” and deceive the “simple” who believe their every word (see Is. 30:10; 2Tim. 4:3; Prv. 14:15).

Not the least of such teachers is Benny Hinn, whose TV show, This Is Your Day! aired in 132 countries in 2004, making it the most widely disseminated program in the world. However his doctrines are not all Heavenly as too often they are clearly contrary to the established revelation of God (the Bible), while his prophecies make a mockery of a Biblical prophet. Though we are commanded to “Prove all things” by that proven source, the Bible, and are shown that discernment thereby is a mark of maturity (Mal. 3:16-18; Heb. 5:14), multitudes (many of which are sincerely in need of a miracle or who may be basically sign seekers) uncritically accept his words and the doctrines he promotes.

Consistent with their laxity as disciples, many followers of Mr. Hinn, when confronted with Biblical criticism of him by qualified men of God (2Tim. 4:2; Titus 1:10-13), seek to invoke Psalm 105:15: “Touch not mine anointed, and do MY prophets no harm.” This indeed is to be avoided in it's true application - that of a warning to those who would do evil to His people or harm a true man of God for speaking and working consistent with the Word of God. Yet the same Word of God reveals that even leaders can be disciplined (1Tim. 5:19; 20), and commands them to warn heretics and reject those that will not repent (Titus 3:10), and for believers to correct a brother who is rebellious (2Ths. 3:14, 15); and enjoins us not to fear those whose predictions fail (Dt. 18:22), and to turn away from those who live disorderly, and not after the Scriptures (2Ths. 3:6;), and from teachers like unto those who suppose “gain is Godliness” (1Tim. 6:5). Benny Hinn is guilty of the above, yet has overall shown that he thinks himself to be above Biblical correction.

Gal. 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Titus 3:10 [to a pastor] A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject

Eph 5:11 [to all] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Prov. 23:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

2John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Dt. 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

2Thes. 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7 For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you. [such as not living an affluent or indolent unChrist-life lifestyle nor teaching false doctrines about God, etc.]

1. THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

In examining Mr. Hinn's aberrations we should begin with some of his past false teachings (circa 1990), which, to his credit he once repudiated after being corrected by Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute. In an article in Charisma magazine in 1993, Benny Hinn stated that such teachings as Jesus suffering in Hell, the “little god” doctrine, and the extremes of the Word of Faith prosperity gospel were wrong. However, such statements stating some degree of repentance are questionable (as are many things Hinn has said), for Benny Hinn continued to teach false ideas (and lifestyle) and to be in league with others (Kenneth Copeland, Hagin, Paul Crouch, Marilyn Hickey, etc.) who teach heresies and or live extravagant unChrist-like lives. True repentance would be manifested in separating himself from such and “doing works meet [fit] for repentance” (Acts 26:22) such as pulling his books and tapes with documented false teachings propagated by him. In order to provide a historical record and as we are not dealing simply with Benny Hinn but with many of the false doctrines that his comrades in the “Word of faith” movement teach, I have included some of his past heretical teachings along with those of others. I have carefully stated dates of most or all from Benny' Hinn's statements , and the reader will do well to note them.

The first major concern relates to the doctrine of the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. A wrong understanding of Him assures other aberrations will come. The Bible declares in 2 Cor 5:21 that “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him,” but Mr. Hinn declared that “He [Jesus] who is righteous by choice said, 'The only way I can stop sin is by Me becoming it. I can't just stop it by letting it touch Me; I and it must become one.' Hear this! He who is the nature of God became the nature of Satan where He became sin!" (TBN, 12/1/90).

Faith preacher Kenneth Copeland concurs: ”Jesus had to "accept the sin nature of Satan." (Kenneth Copeland, What Happened from the Cross to the Throne, side 2.) "Satan conquered Jesus on the Cross and took His spirit to the dark regions of hell" (Kenneth Copeland, Holy Bible: Kenneth Copeland Reference Edition (Kenneth Copeland, Fort Worth: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1991), 129.)

"That Word of the living God went down into that pit of destruction and charged the spirit of Jesus with resurrection power! Suddenly His twisted, death-wracked spirit began to fill out and come back to life.... Jesus was born again -- the firstborn from the dead the Word calls Him, and He whipped the devil in his own backyard." (Kenneth Copeland, "The Price of It All," 4-6.)

"The Spirit of God spoke to me, and He said "Son, realize this" Now follow me in this, don't let your tradition trip you up. He said "Think this way. A twice-born man whipped Satan in his own domain." And I threw my Bible. I said "What?" He said "A born-again man defeated Satan - the first-born of many brethren defeated him." He said "You are the very image, and the very copy of that one." I said "Goodness Gracious, saints alive." I began to see what had gone on in there, and I said "Well you don't? mean - You couldn't dare mean that I could have done the same thing?" He said "Oh yeah. If you'd had the knowledge of the Word of God that He did you could've done the same thing cause you're a re-born man too." (Kenneth Copeland, "Substitution and Identification", Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1989, audio tape #00-0202, side 2)

Acts 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

There is a vast difference between Jesus Christ becoming sin in the sense that all of our sins were laid upon him so that just as sinfulness was imputed to Him (put on His account) so His righteousness is imputed to us when we truly believe, versus that of Christ taking on the nature of the devil and of believers becoming Christ! The teaching that Christ, who "did no sin" (1Pet. 2:22) is blasphemous! And if our Lord and Savior had actually taken on the nature of Satan - who was "a murderer and a “liar from the beginning” (Jn. 8:44) - then Hebrews 13:8 could not be true and He never could or would have prayed “Father forgiven them..” nor have willingly accomplished our redemption!

Instead of taking on the nature of Satan, Jesus took responsibility for all the times we yielded to the world, the flesh, and the devil. The Scripture says, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Is. 53:6; cf. 1Pet. 2:24; 3:18), so that they which believe on Christ have His perfect righteousness imputed unto them. Romans. 4:20-22 says that Abraham “.. staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead.”

As for being taken captive by the devil, Jesus declared “No man taketh it [My life] from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father” (John 10:18). “For Christ hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened [resurrected alive] by the Spirit By which [not in captivity to the devil!]:also He went and preached unto the spirits in prison” (1Pet. 3:18, 19).

Hinn once taught, and may still hold as his Faith teacher friends do, that “Within me is a God-man… The Spirit man within me is a God-man… I’m a God-man" (PTL TBN, Dec.6,1990).

"Are you a child of God? Then you are divine!…Then you’re not human." "You are a little god on earth running around" (Benny Hinn, "Praise-a-thon" broadcast on TBN, November, 1990).

Are you ready for some real revelation knowledge....you are god" (Benny Hinn, "Our Position In Christ", tape # AO31190)

"Did you know that from the beginning of time the whole purpose of God was to reproduce Himself?...And when we stand up here, brother, you're not looking at Morris Cerullo; you're looking at God. You're looking at Jesus" (Morris Cerullo, "The End Time Manifestation of the Sons of God," Morris Cerullo World Evangelism tape 1).

"You don't have a god in you, you are one." (Kenneth Copeland, "The Force Of Love" tape # 02-0028)

While it is true that in Ps 86:6, The Lord says to the judges in Israel “said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High” it is clear He is speaking of men in the positional sense as to rulers over men, like as Moses was made "a god" unto Pharoah (Ex. 7:1), and not that they had a Divine nature, or could say as Jesus could (and Morris cannot), "he that seeth Me seeth Him that sent Me. The next verse reveals this: “But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.” True born - again believers in Christ are not Divine; that is not their essential nature though they are indwelt by the Spirit of God. Therefore all believers face the reality of physical decay and of utter dependence upon God. In surrendering to Christ, yielding to Him in obedience and exchanging our weakness of his strength, He increases as we decrease and works His holy character in us and works through us to do His will. But in no case are we exalted, creative “gods” as Copeland sees himself, rather the servants most powerfully used of God are those who are most keenly aware of their own weakness and utter dependence upon the only One who is Almighty (2Cor. 1:8-10; 4:7-18; 12:6-10; 13:4).

It is in relation to holiness that we read that God has “called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Pet 1:4 KJV). The word “partakers” here denotes co-operation with God, obeying “the truth through the Spirit“ (1Pet. 1:22) and thus becoming more like God in character and more faithful workers for Him. In contrast, these "faith teachers" convey that believers are Divine like Jesus and those who support such teachers” as Copeland, etc. become “partakers” (perhaps ignorantly) with those who presume that they can speak things into existence, supposing they are like Almighty God in a way the Bible never leads to!

"You have the same creative faith and ability on the inside of you that God used when He created the heavens and the earth." (Kenneth Copeland, Inner Image of the Covenant, side 2.)

"[Man] was created on terms of equality with God, and he could stand in God's presence without any consciousness of inferiority ...God made us as much like Himself as possible ...He made us the same class of being that He is Himself... Man lived in the realm of God. He lived on terms equal with God...[The] believer is called Christ ...That's who we are; we're Christ" (Kenneth Hagin, Zoe: The God-Kind of Life, 1989. pp. 35-36, 41)

Speaking of himself as if he were God-incarnate like the Lord Jesus, Kenneth Copeland says: "I say this with all respect so that it don't upset you too bad, but I say it anyway. When I read in the Bible where he says, 'I Am,' I just smile and say, 'Yes, I Am, too!" (Kenneth Copeland, "Believer's Voice of Victory" broadcast on TBN, recorded 7/9/87)

"Gods reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself. I mean a reproduction of Himself. He [Adam] was not a little like God, he was not almost like God, He was not subordinate to God even". (Kenneth Copeland, "Following the Faith of Abraham" tape # 01-3001)

"Adam is God manifested in the flesh" (Kenneth Copeland, "Following the Faith of Abraham" tape # 01-3001)

"God's reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself.... Adam is as much like God as you could get, just the same as Jesus.... Adam, in the Garden of Eden, was God manifested in the flesh" (Kenneth Copeland, Following the Faith of Abraham I, side 1).

"Every man who has been born again is an incarnation and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth" (Kenneth Hagin, "The Incarnation," The Word of Faith, December 13, 1980).

"You are as much the incarnation of God as Jesus Christ was... the believer is as much an incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth". (Kenneth Hagin, "Word Of Faith" Dec. 1980, p. 14)

"I am a 'little messiah' walking the earth" (Benny Hinn, Praise-a-Thon" on TBN, November 6, 1990).

Kenneth Copeland manifests the greatest degree of blasphemy here, robbing Jesus of His unique Divine nature while elevating himself as on His level:.

"Don't be disturbed when people accuse you of thinking you're God. The more you get to be like Me, the more they're going to think that way of you. They crucified Me for claiming that I was God. But I didn't claim I was God; I just claimed I walked with Him and that He was in Me. Hallelujah. That's what you're doing." (Kenneth Copeland, "Voice of Victory" Vol. 15, No. 2, 2/87)

Both in exalting man and debasing God/Christ, these statements demonstrate what happens when a man is not “Serving the Lord with all humility of mind ..” and allows himself to become “vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind” (Acts 20:19; Col. 2:18) Adding to and subtracting from the established Word of God, and practicing eisegesis (reading your ideas into a text) rather than exegesis (understanding gained out of a text), such false teachers manifest a dangerous anti-Christ (alter Christos) tendency, as they (like the antiChrist will) sit in the temple (church in this case) of God supposing they are God!

Copeland here claims Jesus Christ never claimed to be God! That's news to the Pharisees, who knew what constituted blasphemy and well perceived the implicit and explicit statements claiming Divinity as constituting such - unless He was in fact “God manifest in the flesh” (1Tim. 3:16) just as Scripture manifests Himself to be by word and deed.

Though references to God may usually properly refer to the person of the Father (Jn. 17:3), Jesus Himself is proerly called God, and it is manifest both explcitly and implcitly that Jesus Christ shares the same Divine, uncreated nature with the Father, and is revealed as the expression (the Word) of the invisible God: “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him. (John 1:18 ; cf. 1:1-3, 14; Heb. 1:1-3). To claim the unique glory, titles, or creative power belonging to God alone would mean one claimed Divinity; possessing the same essential, eternal nature as God (read through Isaiah chapters 42-48). Jesus Christ personally substantially did all three, while making it clear that He was not positionally equal with the Father.

Isa 46:5 To whom will ye liken Me, and make Me equal, and compare Me, that We may be like?

John 5:22, 23 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His [very own] Father, making himself equal with God.

Dt. 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

John 10:28-30 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one.

John 10:33-36 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

John 8:57-59 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM (cf. Ex. 3:14). Then took they up stones to cast at him: ..

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? (cf. Jn. 12:34-45; Is. 6:1-10).

John 20:27-39 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

See here for a fuller substantiation of this.

Though Copeland and Hagin are the more blatantly heretical in their delusions of an unwarranted Christian “godness,” many of the Word of Faith teachers speak from the same “tower” of Babel blasphemy in this regard, leading many astray through their broadcasts via the towers of TBN.

2.“.. they have refused to RECEIVE CORRECTION: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return” (Jer. 5:3).

Prov 17:10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

Ps. 141:5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

You know, I’ve looked for one verse in the Bible, I just can’t seem to find it. One verse that says, ‘If you don’t like ’em, kill ’em.’ I really wish I could find it. ... Sometimes I wish God would give me a Holy Ghost machine gun - I blow your head off!” (Benny Hinn on TBN’s “Praise-A-Thon,” April 1990, emphasis added. http://www.modernreformation.org/krhinn.htm).

"If you have attacked me, your children will pay for it." (Benny Hinn, TBN "Heresy Hunters" October 23 1992)

Related to sound doctrine by the Holy Spirit is sound character by the same Spirit of “of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2Tim. 1:7). The Lord on earth was accessible to challengers and Scripturally and powerfully proved doctrine and reproved hypocrites (Mt. 22:15ff). Likewise the apostles, following in his holy steps could say, “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ..” “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God” (2 Cor. 2:17; 4:2). In stark contrast, the response of “faith teachers” overall has been to respond to Biblical reproofs by attacking and threatening those who do so, instead of being able to Biblically substantiate their doctrines in debate with reasonable men. The refusal to be answerable to mature brethren and to deal with Biblical reproofs simply by autocratic pronouncements is a tactic of cult leaders, as well as that of the Romans Catholic institution (according to our interpretation of Mt. 16, only our interpretation, can be correct). In regard to this at one time Mr. Hinn stood out from his word of faith counterparts in that he did receive correction and manifest some repentance.

*Televangelist Benny Hinn Has Publicly Renounced Faith Theology.*

The August 16, 1993 issue of _Christianity Today_ reported that Benny Hinn has apparently responded to admonitions from Hank Hanegraaff and evangelist James Robison by repenting of teaching the Faith message -- including positive confession, the prosperity gospel, and the right-to-be-healed concept.

Robison, who contacted Hinn after reading Hanegraaff's book _Christianity in Crisis,_ is quoted in the article as saying, "I told Benny that every time I prayed for him, the Lord showed me his displeasure over what he was doing. I didn't want to see Benny continue in his slaughter of the innocent sheep." Robison said he brought the same message to televangelists Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, and Larry Lea, but none of them responded to the warning. Hinn, Robison said, reacted differently.

Robison reports that "Benny went to pieces and was very contrite....I told him God didn't anoint him to preach erroneous teachings and perform extravagant theatrics like knocking people down, waving his coat around, and blowing on people, and if he continued, his ministry would be destroyed within three years."

In front of a jolted and teary-eyed congregation at the 7,000-member Orlando Christian Center, Hinn censured the Faith movement. "It's faith, faith, faith and no Jesus anywhere. We have to have faith in Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. So, where do I stand on faith? Stop seeking faith and start seeking the Lord! The word-of-faith message is New Age and it doesn't work. I'm going to stop preaching healing and start preaching Jesus," _Christianity Today_ reports.

Hanegraaff says there is only one way for Hinn to demonstrate his rectitude: "The real test is whether Benny will pull his books. In other words, will he continue to sell books that promote the very thing he says he is turning away from?"

After a an HBO documentary called A Question of Miracles (rch 1993) which exposed fraudelent claims of healing, Mr. Hinn' met privately with several of his critics and admited that he'd made mistakes and said that he would no more air "miracles" on TV unless they had been medically verified. "God has taken me by the neck," he told his congregation. "I think I'm gonna stop preaching healing and start preaching." As the August 2003 issue of D Magazine. (http://www.thedoormagazine.com/archives/theheretic.html) continues to report, "If you study this particular year in his life, he's remarkably consistent in his statements, very self-aware of exactly what errors he's made, very humble, very apologetic, very interested in getting "back to the gospel." He even says at one point that he'll stop doing healing services entirely. And most everyone believed him..." Yet "a year later he was back to his old tricks. "By 1994, it was as though the soul-searching of the previous year had never existed. He geared up to be bigger than ever. He added crusades, he became more flamboyant, more theatrical, and the procession of "miracles" flitting across the TV screen every day continued unabated."

That Benny Hinn understands repentance is clear from his own statement on the issue: “Most of us don’t even know what ‘repentance’ means. We think, ‘I’m sorry. Forgive Me. Amen - go mess up tomorrow. That’s not repentance. Repentance is a completely changed life. It’s when you break because of sin and you say ‘never again.’ That’s repentance.” (OCC, June 21, 1987. http://www.letusreason.org/b.hinn4.htm). Sadly however, though his public words contrition were certainly commendable, Mr. Hinn soon and has since manifested that his repentance was superficial for the most part, as he did not edit or pull his books and later continued to fellowship with false teachers and teach foundational errors and false prophecies, and resumed unChristian practices. He also would once again react in unrighteous judgment to those who exposed him for his continued errors, as did his friends.

"I want to tell you why I believe people get sick.. In 2 Chronicles 16, verse 10 - and I like to read this - verse 10 and 11 and 12, the bible says sickness comes when individuals attack preachers." (Benny Hinn, Praise The Lord, TBN, June 8, 1998.) But rather than putting those who may correct him in their place, the above quoted verses reveals a compromising, backslidden autocratic king whose heart get angry at just reproof, and who perseucutes those who do and abuses those under him, and thus is chastised by God but remains unrepentant, and then dies in sin. A warning to all, but especially applicable to Hinn in the light of the next more recent quote.]

Rather than responding as David did to reproof in Psalm 141 (praying for their well-being when they have trouble), Benny's prayer and that of others was essentially for them to have calamity:

"Yes, Lord, I'll do it. I place a curse on every man and every woman that will stretch his hand against this anointing. I curse that man who dares to speak a word against this ministry. But any man and any woman that raises his or her hand in blessing towards this ministry, I bless that man. I bless that home! I bless that family. Under this anointing, the words I speak cannot fall to the ground. Under this anointing, everything I say, happens." (Benny Hinn, TBN September 10, 1999)

"Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee" (1Tim. 4:16).

"..reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine" (2Tim. 4:2b).

Benny Hinn is hardly alone in his censure of those who correct him, as Paul Crouch adds his venom to those who take doctrine seriously and correction

"I think God's given up on a lot of that old rotten Sanhedrin religious crowd, twice dead, plucked up by the roots. I think they're damned and on their way to hell and I don't think there's any redemption for them...the heresy hunters that want to find a little mote of illegal doctrine in some Christian's eye and pluck that little mote out of their eye when they've gsome of ot the whole forest in their own lives and in their own eyes. I say to hell with you! Oh hallelujah. Get out of God's way, quit blocking God's bridges or God's gonna shoot you if I don't! I refuse to argue any longer with any of you out there. Don't even call me. If you want to argue doctrine, if you want to straighten out somebody over here, if you want to criticize Ken Copeland for his preaching on faith, or Dad Hagin. Get out of my life! I don't even want to talk to you or hear you. I don't want to see your ugly face! Get out of my face in Jesus' name." (Paul Crouch, "Praise-a-thon" broadcast on TBN, recorded 4/2/91)

"God, we proclaim death to anything or anyone that will lift a hand against this network and this ministry that belongs to You, God. It is Your work, it is Your idea, it is Your property, it is Your airwaves, it is Your world, and we proclaim death to anything that would stand in the way of God's great voice of proclamation to the whole world. In the Name of Jesus, and all the people said Amen!" (Paul Crouch, TBN, 11/7/97).

3. 2 Cor 11:13 For such are false apostles, DECEITFUL WORKERS, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

Concerning sickness and death, while I thank God for healings done by Him (having myself been healed by God of a real hernia), Mr. Hinn has a credibility problem in substantiating many of his claims for Divine healing. When Impact News investigated Mr. Hinn about a statement he made on national T.V that he saw a man raised from the dead in Ghana ("I was in Ghana just recently and we had half a million people show up and a man was raised from the dead on the platform. That’s a FACT people!"), Mr. Hinn then denied that he saw such. Another notable example is that of the purported healing of boxer Evander Holyfield’s heart through Benny Hinn, which heart condition was later attributed to a false diagnosis in the first place. Holyfield subsequently said himself, "There really was not anything to heal. That is, because I do not believe that I had a problem with my heart to begin with." (Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jan. 8 1995, p. F 3). Likewise a supposed healing of a mother and 2 children of Aids (which was shown on national T.V.) was later found to be untrue.

Benny Hinn, who was Catholic and went to Catholic school, also has partnered with Roman Catholicis and it's manifestly dead gospel, and has pointed to Lourdes and Fatima as places of healings like his, and stated "my mentality basically is a Catholic mentality" (Christianity Today, Sept. 3, 1991).

The Scriptural principal spoken by Christ that “.. unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more” (Lk. 12:48) is applicable here. A man and a ministry the scope of Hinn's with the degree of proclaimed healings should not have any problem abundantly substantiating their claims, as is necessary with a lost world looking on. This does not mean that healings do not take place or that those done through Benny Hinn may not be of God, for a man may have such a gift (a charism) and yet have false doctrine and or a lack of character. Such was the case with Balaam (Num. 22-24; 31:16; 2Pet. 2:15; Rev. 2:14), and the best we can tell he is in Hell (Jude 1:11). As 1 and 2 Corinthians reveals, possessing gifts and doing some works of God does not necessarily validate all one says or does. Remember Samson, in contrast with the overall holiness and power of the apostles in Acts, etc. Praise the Lord.

Christ and His apostles were shown true by their doctrinal integrity, a sacrificial life in love and personal holiness, and well-substantiated manifestation of supernatural works (without gimmicks) that could withstand close and constant scrutiny without fail (Rm. 15:18, 19; 1Cor. 4:9-13; 2Cor. 6:-10; 12:12. True and faithful apostles strove for sound doctrine, a Christ-like heart and life, and laboured to bring souls to be servants of God like themselves, to fully yield themselves in love - service for their Lord and Savior and His Gospel, rather than being sign or pleasure seekers. Following Christ meant that they who preached faith in Christ lived by the same. Rather than constant appeals for funds they trusted the Lord to provide for their funds without solictation as they sought His righteousness and did His work in obedience to Mt. 16:33 (the Lord never did any kind of fund raising, and the only apostolic solicitation for funds giving was for others, not themselves: 1Cor. 16:2; 2Cor.8+9).

In contrast, Benny Hinn spends prime time plugging for money. A story in The Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo. (www.Gazette.com reported that before Hinns services began he asked for money, “sometimes suggesting donations of no less than $100. Credit card forms are passed around along with buckets to collect cash.”

The Bible reveals the early church as a close community that unselfishly gave to those in need through the apostles (Acts 2:40-47:-4:42). Such true apostles , following their Lord, and did not live royally or above the common people (1Cor. 4:9-14). In contrast these latter day apostles live more like kings than followers of the Lord JESUS. Read Mike Thomas's impression of a visit with Hinn: in Dave Hunt Berean Call Newsletter, Feb. 2002 (http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/benny.htm), .

He looks like a Ralph Lauren advertisement, a true gentleman of leisure. As always, his hair is sprayed solidly in place. 'I don't know if you'll ever [again] see a reverend without socks," he says proudly. [He's wearing no socks.] "That's the way I am. I'm more down to earth than most people.'

"This comes from a man who just turned in his Mercedes for a Jaguar and recently moved from the exclusive Heathrow development to the even more exclusive Alaqua, where he now lives in a $685,000 home. His suits are tailored, his shoes are Italian leather, and his wrists and finger glitter with gold and diamonds ... what he considers a modest lifestyle, as if everyone lives like this."

"He wears his diamond Rolex, diamond rings, gold bracelet and custom suits for all to see. ..."What's the big deal, for goodness sake?" he says. "What am I supposed to do, drive a Honda? ...That's not in the Bible. ... I'm sick and tired about hearing about streets of gold [in heaven]. I don't need gold in heaven. I got to have it now"

Dateline NBC documented Benny Hinn has not delivered on some promises of projects he raised money for, such as his $30 million dollar healing center in Las Colinas, TX., and that he often stayed in hotel rooms exceeding $1000. per night. http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/hinndatelineresponse.html

"Hinn is a virtual recluse, surrounded by armies of bodyguards, ensconced in an $8.5 million oceanfront hacienda in southern California, travelling by private jet for "snorkeling vacations" in the Cayman Islands, staying in $3,000 presidential suites, and claiming a level of financial secrecy and paranoid internal security that's more often associated with drug dealers than men of the cloth.".(the D magazine: www.thedoormagazine.com/archives/theheretic.html

How does Benny Hinn receive the money for this unChrist-like lifestyle? It depends when or who asks him. When discussing the distribution of his books at a service in Hawaii, February 28, 1997, Mr. Hinn stated, “Anything that sells, I don’t get a cent. All the books, all the tapes, I GET NOTHING. I just get one cent. That’s it! As in his prophecies however, Benny Hinn seems to have little integrity when it comes to his words. A month later, on March 16, 1997, when Impact News (http://www.cdrradio.com/impact/) initially asked Benny Hinn what his annual salary was he replied, “if it wasn’t for my book royalties, I’d be dead!" And, “I would love the day to come where, ah, I would live only on my royalties and would not have to take a salary from the ministry at all.” (see more at http://www.letusreason.org/b.hinn4.htm) \.

First he doesn't get a cent, then he gets one cent, then he would be dead if it were not for his book royalites (one cent per book?!), Then he wishes for a day when he could live on his royalties (if only .50 a book, that would be over a quarter of a million dollars just for “Good Morning, Holy Spirit” and “The Anointing”).

Well, just how much how much is Benny Hinn's salary? Impact News, having obtained a copy of Benny Hinns five year employment contract asked Benny (in the aforementioned interview) if that amount was reasonably accurate. Mr. Hinn then replied “It's reasonably accurate.” Yet later he told the same news source that it was much higher, even between $500,000 and $1,000,000 a year. Asked if he was wealthy on Larry King live, Mr. Hinn said “No, I’m not wealthy.” Perhaps not, if compared with Bill Gates.

Let us discover more about how Mr. Hinn operates in an article from “Let Us Reason” ministries (P.O. 683, Wahiawa, HI 96786 - USA; see http://www.letusreason.org/Wf1con.htm and <http://www.letusreason.org/b.hinn4.htm>) :

What do you see when you tune in to Benny Hinn’s weekly televised program This is Your Day? He appears with a stack of prayer requests 3 1/2 ft high and 8ft. by 8ft. wide - probably half a million letters (they receive up to 20,000 a week). And then he promises that he will pray for you personally. (But of course, along with the prayer request, don’t forget to send in a little something to help the ministry). He then lays his hands on the envelopes publicly and gives a general prayer for all the personal requests to be answered. That’s how he prays for you. I don’t think this is what Jesus had in mind for intercessory prayer, do you?

To my knowledge there is not one incident recorded in the Scriptures where Jesus solicited money from the people He healed. When Hinn was on Larry King live (1997) and a caller from Illinois asked, “My question is, Jesus never asked for money, why do you?” Hinn’s response was short and candid, "Well, Jesus didn’t have a TV program." There’s his justification. Yes it takes money to do things, but is he being a frugal steward over it? Not really, there are too many instances of extravagant spending. He spends his time in the best hotels when he travels, presidential suites costing as much as $2,200 a night. And takes Himself and his crew on $7,000 plane flights for their immediate appearance somewhere else in the world. (Impact News report)

He stayed at the Kahala Mandarin in the presidential suite that costs $3,700-$5,000 a night hotel here on Oahu in 2002. How many people have ever stayed even one night in a hotel this expensive? I have heard from someone who lives on Maui that when Hinn goes to Maui and speaks at First Assembly headed by Pastor Morrocco he stays at the Grand Wailea in the $10,000 suite. He has convinced Christians that listen to him that the anointed deserve the best. But you can’t justify this with the apostles who knew the Lord when he was on earth, luxury like this was not practiced by them, in fact they called it worldliness and went out of their way so they would not even look like this. But Benny Hinn, who is held in high esteem for his healing ability, promises many material blessings to those who give. By misapplying Phil.1:2-5 to prove his definition of a believer’s “partnership” in the Gospel, Hinn tells his ministry partners what is about to come back their way for supporting his ministry. He translates v. 7 to mean that because of their partnership with Benny Hinn Ministries, “the grace that is on my (Benny's) life will be on yours.” What he is telling his audience is that if they give him their money, God will be gracious enough to give them the same “grace” (same anointing) he has given Benny! Hinn makes some powerful, absolute statements to manipulate the giving. “Every dollar you give God will use it as a weapon against the Devil.” With a pitch like this who could not give?”

With all this money coming in from souls who know virtually nothing of how he lives or spends the funds, we may ask “how accountable is Mr. Hinn?" Being licensed as a church, by law he does not have to disclose where his finances go, yet most major ministries subscribe to the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and will provide a disclosure of how the funds given them are used to those who ask. Mr. Hinn does neither, and such a lack of accountability earned a "F" from the Charlotte, N.C.-based ministry Wall Watchers (www.MinistryWatch.com), which rates America's largest faith-based ministries. Wall Watchers comments that at Hinn's crusades, "offerings have a flair and feel of a healing lottery ticket." [also receiving an “F” were Creflo Dollar ministries, Kenneth Copeland ministries, Kenneth Hagin ministries, Life in the Word/Joyce Meyer, Crystal Cathedral among others.]

Seeing that the life-blood of most faith teachers seems to be offering$ (note that some of Benny Hin's most extreme false prophecies were inseparably linked with strong exhortations to give more money to TBN ), a few words should be said about such. The more mature a Christian is the more he is able to be content and thankful in both privation and earthly blessing, and to unselfishly handle as well as thankfully enjoy material blessings. Character is proved and formed in testing, and both adversity and affliction, and both abundance and blessings are a test. But being poor is not necessarily a sign of a lack of faith, nor is being rich necessarily a mark of faith. The fact is that many “poor” people actually have more faith than those who are well off, as they literally depend upon God for their daily bread. Meanwhile it is usually the rich who have little faith, as they think they have little need for Christ and make money their god (though poor people can also do likewise). “And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!” (Mk. 10:23). James 2:5, 6 states, “Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? But ye have despised the poor ..”.

Most Christians world wide are are not as rich (in this worlds goods) as their unsaved counterparts. But while the lost poor of this world may need to beg, and the rich of this world may use deceit to gain wealth, the truly righteous will not be forsaken," and there is no need for the faithful to be "begging bread” (Ps. 37:5). And nor is manipulation, deciet, extortion, etc Christian. Though we should seek to be accounted worthy of more possessions, it is not how much you have that is of most importance, but how you got it and your faithfulness in using it. That is what the Lord looks at. "Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right" (Prv. 16:8). Remember the Words of Jesus, that “He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? (Luke 16:10, 11). A Christian not to be anxious for money, but obey Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. He is also to be a good steward of the mani-fold grace of God (1Pet. 4:10, which means living sacrifically and practically so we can give more to in the Lord's work and those dilligently doing it, as the Lord and His apostles exampled (Mk. 10:45; 1Cor. 4:9-13). And seek to make best use of what funds we are graced with, being neither unwise with funds nor otherwise wasteful (Jn. 6:53). In so doing we should trust God for more things to be used joyously for His work and glory. This is our privilege (and not for self indulgence) keeping in mind that our stewardship of the manifold graces of God will have consequences, both earthly and eternal (1Cor. 3:10-15; Mt. 25:14-30; Lk. 12:42-46). May we so walk as to hear “well done” from our Master, and to His glory.

Questions as, "cannot God give abundance?" "Cannot a Christian possess riches?" "Cannot a Christian enjoy good things given to him?," can be answered yes in all cases, but we are stewards of the things God gives us, which are to be used in accordance to Biblical priorities. Speaking of spiritual graces, Jesus said “freely ye have received, freely give.” And, “what hast thou that thou didst not receive? (Mt. 10:8 1Cor. 4:7). Ultimately all things come from God. If we have freely received the Lord's sacrificial grace and mercy, we should freely give ourselves to Him (Rm. 12:1). In so doing we will be committed to the work of the kingdom of God and conscious of the true needs of others, and will seek to make best use of the things the Lord has entrusted us with. We will live practically, not extravagantly, able to receive blessings and ready to distribute them, and that in faith. A father with 5 hungry children can use his paycheck to treat himself, but if his priority is for the welfare of his family he will forego non-essentials for a higher purpose. We are members of a family with many needs, and the one who loves Christ and so is surrendered to Him will make God's work his priority. And in freely surrendering ourselves to Christ there is freedom, and in prayerfully giving we will see the Lord faithful and our faith and joy increased!

Yet some protest that any such (love) restraint on self-indulgence is legalism. Legalism is “teaching for doctrines the commandments of men” and or focusing on the letter of the law to the exclusion of it's intent (Mk. 7:7; Lk. 11:42). The other extreme is Libertarianism, which is living as if there were no law. But what we are to seek is neither, rather it is Biblical love which places is it's priority on the benefit of the object of it's love (God and His word first and then others) that should be our goal This of course, must be done with wisdom to truly be effective (Phil. 1:9). Which is why we must wholly love the Lord and His Word first (Mt. 22:37-40; Rm. 12:1, 2). And it takes faith which is why we must “follow on to know the Lord” (Hos. 6:3) ever more fully.

Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?” (Lk. 12:42). The one who seeks to accumulate wealth so he can gain worldly esteem and rich comforts, or the man of God who is overall living sacrificially, faithfully serving others for Christ and who gives to those who truly have needs? And who are the faithful stewards within the flock of God? Those who sow their seed (if at all) to a man or ministry that is already rich by enticing (or extorting) souls to give so they can live like they do (extravagantly), or who give to the servants of God who takes the Lord and his apostle as examples? It should be added that it takes more faith to give out of our need than out of our abundance, though we are can do both.

And if one is called into Christian ministry, then Biblically we are to serve others in ministry without requiring compensation for such things as preaching, nor charging fees in order to make profits (1Cor. 9:1-18). Christian ministry is not a money making business. If one is truly called inot full-time ministry, the Lord will bring what he needs thru the "back door" as he diligently tends to the "front door" of the Kings business

In conclusion, both the spirit of poverty that requires life - long poverty to be holy (as elements of the Roman ecclesiastical system expressly did), as well as the extravagant lifestyles and the theology of faith teachers is contrary to Christ who said, “Follow Me,” and His apostles who did and say the same.

Mark 10:44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Luke 9:23-26 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

1Cor. 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

1Tim. 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

1 Tim 4:12, 13 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

1 Tim 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

2 Tim 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Phil 3:17 -19 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

Phil 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

2 Tim 3:10-12 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. (cf. 2Cor . 6:1-10; 1Cor. 4:7-14).

Rom 15:18, 19 For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

4. Mat 7:15 Beware of FALSE PROPHETS, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Coming to next section, we must examine the prophecies of Benny Hinn (many can be heard at http://www.inplainsite.org/html/false_prophecy.html).

Benny Hinn has made many false prophecies which are easily documented, and which has made him the most notable failure of all major word of faith teachers. A solid documetantion of some of Benny Hinn's prophecies can be see in PROPHECY OR PRESUMPTION? TIME IS RUNNING OUT ON THE SPURIOUS ORACLES OF BENNY HINN (evidently written in the mid 90's) from by G. Richard Fisher and M. Kurt Goedelman, available from Personal Freedom Outreach, P.O. Box 26062, Saint Louis, Missouri 63136. Or at www.pfo.org/prophecy.htm.

This documents that Hinn predicted, “The Lord also says that two of his great giants will die in the mid-nineties. They have held the torch of revival for the last forty years - these two.

One will die suddenly while asleep and the other will die with sickness. And as both giants die, which will be in the mid-nineties, I will shake this world with the last revival. Their deaths will be the closing pages of this move and the new move of God will begin which I have promised.”

The Lord said this to me. He said in the mid-nineties two of my giants will go home. And right after that, the greatest revival in the history of man would begin. Well just recently one mighty giant went home, that’s Dr. Sumrall. ... My very precious friend. Now I don’t know who’s next. I’m not going to predict anyone to go home now. ... But we are now in the mid-nineties. This is - this is - this - this is the time. Saints, put your seat belts on. Something is about to happen” (June 11, 1996).

While as the PFO article points out, “the definition of “giant” is in the eye of the beholder,” yet no notable died in the 90's who would fit the description of a giant who “held the torch of revival for the last forty years.” Even if Pentecostal minister Lester F. Sumrall were granted him that distinction then there is an obvious lack of another Oral Roberts, Paul Crouch, Kathryn Kuhlman or Aimee Semple McPherson.

The article goes on to expose much more, from which I present the following quotes (also available elsewhere) predicting things in the 90's.

Hinn went on to declare at the New Years service:

There will be many raised from the dead in that day. Many visitations of angels that will come as young men knocking at your door. You will not recognize them as angels at first, but then you will be burned within your hearts.”

We now have two more prophecies that have failed, with the dead still “resting in peace” (at least their physical remains) and no great increase in the amount of people claiming to have angels knocking at their door. Yet Hinn was about to make a prophecy that would add to cemeteries - and sadly to Hell if it came to pass, related to a perverse practices that once brought angels into the house of Lot (Gen. 19).

The Lord also tells me to tell you in the mid-nineties, about ‘94 or ‘95, no later than that, God will destroy the homosexual community of America. But He will not destroy it with what many minds have thought Him to be. But He will destroy it with fire. And many will turn and be saved, and many will rebel and be destroyed. - Orlando Christian Center, Dec. 31, 1989”

1995 has come, and gone, and if anything the sodomite community is more empowered to promote it's agenda than ever before in recent history, and is doing so. Meanwhile it is the power of the church at - large that is cut back in western countries, with little personal evangelistic outreach proportionate to it's size to souls or in contending for the faith that is increasingly attacked (pray therefore and preach).

Hinn predicted next that:

The economy of the United States of America is going to fall. ... And what will bring America to its knees, says the Spirit, is the economic collapse. The allies she has depended upon will turn their backs.”

Any true Christian who fears the Lord and studies scripture would have to agree that judgment will fall upon America, as God judges nations as well as individuals according to the light they have received (Ps. 9:17; Jer. 18:1-10; Rom. 2). Yet we must remember that these prophecies of Hinn all seem to be of a continuity beginning with the death of the 2 great revival leaders in the 1990's.

What came next in Mr. Hinn's prophetical declaration was

I’ve heard the voice of my saints ... I will look again on this nation - even as I’ve looked on Israel long ago - and I will restore its greatness. In that greatness, I will be magnified.”

Both the manifest judgment and any restoration also awaits to be seen, and in fact if America will ever see some sort of revival it will only come to the humble in heart who earnestly seek the Lord and His glory in repentance and faith, which is just the opposite of what is typically manifested and promoted today. God knows what is necessary to bring about repentance, and we who know Him must obey 2Chrn. 7:14 and continually humble ourselves, pray and seek the Lord in repentance and faith (Lam. 3:40; Rev. 2:5; Ja. 4, etc.). This kind of cost for revival is contrary to the doctrine espoused by the Word of Faith movement, which propagates a “name it and claim it “ revival and evangelism which is a substitute for the Biblical requirements that require self denial and real labor in prayer and preaching..

Hinn continued to proclaim the supposed words of Jesus Christ, this time including Canada in the prophesied revival:

Canada will be visited with a mighty revival that will start in the west coast of British Columbia. It will sweep across the west. It will sweep across even Alaska and will come east. But the great move of God that I’ve planned for America will not begin on the west coast but on the east coast. It will break loose in the next three years, and sweep across the west.”

These “next 3 years” have long since expired, and the Lord knows, and we who live on the eastern U.S. know, that we certainly need a great awakening! Meanwhile Canada goes about legalizing the principal sin that made Sodom a salt heap, with America tragically moving in the same direction. No revival such as Hinn predicted has occurred, as Hinn again failed miserably as a prophet. Yet there is more to come:

"The Spirit of God tells me an earthquake will hit the East Coast of America and destroy much in the '90s. Not one place will be safe from earthquakes in the '90s. These who have not known earthquakes will know it. People, I feel the Spirit all over me!"- Orlando Christian Center, Dec. 31, 1989

Whatever Hinn fells “all over” him, it is not the Spirit of God, who is profaned by Hinn claiming His presence as a surety for his lies. Aside from a very slight tremor I think I can recall, there has been no destructive earthquake on the east coast, either in the 90's or up until now.

Here Mr. Hinn deals with political entities:

People, I feel the Spirit all over me ...” “There will be a woman that will arise as a leader in the west. ... Following the rapture [of the Church], a woman president will be in the White House. And that woman president will destroy this nation.”

Europe ... will rule the nations and influence the world.”

"The Spirit tells me - Fidel Castro will die - in the 90's. Oooh my! Some will try to kill him and they will not succeed. But there will come a change in his physical health, and he will not stay in power, and Cuba will be visited of God." - Benny Hinn, 1989.

You do not have to be a prophet to surmise such a one as Mrs. Hillary Clinton being elected President as America continues it's decline. Meanwhile Europe has a long way to go to “rule the nations, and clearly Fidel Castro sadly lives on (7-06) despite Benny's solemn prediction of his imminent death in the 90's! Woe to Mr. Hinn, as how much easier it is for atheists, skeptics, and the like to justify themselves in the light of such a string of failed predictions! Like as carnal Lot “seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law “(Gen. 19:14), so would any real warning from Benny to men like Castro be. “ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is writte (Rm. 2:24).

Benny Hinn also falsely predicted the rapture and coming of the Lord and the anti-Christ:

A world dictator is coming on the scene. My! He's a short man. He's a short man. I see a short man who's a perfect incarnation of Satan. [speaks in tongues] Never in my life have I had anything happen like what's happening to me now! 'This man will rule the world. In the next few years you will see him. But not long after that you will see Me.'” - Orlando Christian Center, Dec. 31, 1989

We may have two years before the rapture. Can I be blunt with you? I don't know if we have two years left. I'm going to prove to you from the Word tonight, that we have less than two years."- November 9, 1990 Praise-a-Thon

"Jesus is coming again within the next two years." - July 1997, fund-raising telethon on TBN

It is tragic enough that men like Hinn spout forth “lying divinations” which profane the Lord;s name and hold up the Christian faith to mockery, but in addition Hinn makes predictions of the the Lord imminent return which serve to loosen purse strings for TBN! It is a good things our faith does not rest in such a charlatan prophet as Hinn!

More recent FALSE PROPHECIES from Mr. Hinn (he has not learned from past failures)

I see rows of caskets lining up in front of this TV set. And I see them bringing them closer to the TV set. And as people are coming closer, I see ahh, a, actually loved ones picking up the hands of the dead and letting them touch the screen, and people are, are getting raised as their hands are touching that screen… there’s gonna be divine resurrection happening as people bring their loved ones to the TV set." (TBN Oct.23, 99)

"This is where my people will rise up as an army and bring millions into the kingdom of God." Benny Hinn, Honolulu, Blaisdale, January 21, 1999.

Next, Benny does not forget his hosts in his generous false prophecies:

"But here's first what I see for TBN. You're going to have people raised from the dead watching this network. You're going to have people raised from the dead watching TBN. Programs -- just plain programs -- programs that haven't done much when it comes to supernatural manifestations -- teaching programs!"- October 19, 1999 Praise The Lord, Trinity Broadcasting Network

In the year 2000 “Prophet” Hinn said he expected that Jesus would be appearing PHYSICALLY (not as in a vision) on the platform with him in Narobi Kenya. However, no such appearing took place. Do you remember the words spoken to His disciples upon Jesus departing ? “.. Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen” (Acts 1:11; Rev. 1:7). Though i might allow that the Lord could appear in a vision (as to the apostles Paul and John and is reported to have occurred to some Muslims recently who then received Him), the physical manifestation of Christ (in His glorified body) is only predicted in Scripture to be at His second coming. Meanwhile believers are to “walk by faith, and not by sight” (2Cor. 5:7). “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” ( 1 Pet 1:8 ). “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

This next section documents Benny Hinn's boldly fallacious “predictions about the Middle East.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables(2Tim. 4:3, 4).

... they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace;” (Ezek 13:10 ).

"A peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians will be signed before the end of the year and it will usher in a new era of openness to Christianity in the Middle East." Hinn also predicted “a group of Israeli rabbis will see a vision of Jesus so magnificent that they will preach the gospel in their synagogues" - resulting in harsh laws against proselytism in the Jewish state. "Within two years there will be a new pope," Hinn declares. He then describes the new pontiff as an Italian who wears glasses and long hair. "And within two years a young Egyptian male converted from Islam will preach the gospel so well that hundreds of thousands of Muslims will accept Christ." (2000).

"Yes. The glory of God is going to visit His mighty church. Yes Lord. Three and a half months from now a great event is going to take place in the world, followed by a mighty move of God in the church. Three and a half months from now something is going to happen in this world: headline news, you'll know it. I will not tell you what I see. You'll just know it, and something mighty will follow in the Spirit. God, the Holy Ghost, is saying to His church - Watch Israel. Watch my people Israel. You will know as you read the scriptures and watch Israel. 'For the days are short' says the Lord. 'The days ahead are evil' says the Lord, 'but I have reserved a place for my people, a place of safety, a place of protection.'" -- Benny Hinn, December 29th, 2002.

Read the above carefully: it is now the 2006 and the three and a half months have long since passed, and yet the predicted great event in Israel has not happened. No peace plans have resulted in a “new era of openness to Christianity.” In fact the middle east today is likely more hostile toward the gospel than when Mr Hinn made his prediction. Rather than peace, hostility has continued between Israel and the Palestinians, nor did converted Rabbis are preach Christ in their synagogues, the Pope did not die within the 2 years of Hinn's “prophecy,” and when he later did (as expected), a German took his place! And though we may pray for such a Muslim convert to arise and preach Christ powerfully, no such thing has happened. The Pope (JP2) did not die till 2006. No converted Muslim has led hundreds of thousands of Muslims to accept Christ. No “great event” occurred in Israel at the predicted time, and certainly no new great move of God was manifested the church (though we pray for a real one).

The Greatest Revival And Working Of Miracles Since Pentecost Fails To Materialize As Predicted. (Listen at http://www.inplainsite.org/assets/multimedia/Assad_1.ram).

But this last treaty prophecy was preceded by a previous detailed but likewise failed prediction. Benny Hinn in a previous declaration (1999 - the time of Pres. Clinton's presidency) Hinn assured us that Hafez Al-Assad (the president of Syria) was bound by his Arabic honor to get the Golan heights back before he died as he had promised he would do. Hinn even stated “If he does not get the Golan back his son will never be president.” The result of this treaty is that all of the Middle East and Northern Africa - Iran, Libya, and Ethiopia excepted - would enter into a peace treaty with Israel within a few months. This would result in 1. A tremendous revival throughout the world: “More people will get saved in this short period than any time since Pentecost.” “I predict by the anointing of God I feel on me that every loved one you have prayed for ... will be born again when that move hits!” 2. A tremendous outbreak of miracles: “A move of the miraculous unseen since Pentecost.” Reiterating a Kathryn Kuhlman prophesy, Hinn said, “There won't be one sick saint in the Body of Christ.” 3. “The greatest move of prosperity in world history” would be realized by the saints. All this would begin “The second they sign this peace treaty.” “I'm telling you it's going to happen, no question about it.” “We are all waiting for this mighty move ... just next door. Weeks away; no more than just a few months away.

Then, per usual, Hinn usues this scenario to raise funds for TBN. ”But we've got to sow for it now” he declares, so waste no time, just “get to the phones, get to the phones.” In soliciting pledges Mr. Hinn adds solemn assurances: “I'm not preaching tonight, but I'm prophesying tonight, that in the next few months the heavens will be opened and a mighty harvest season will begin on you.” Declaring Israel reaped the riches of the Egyptians because they sowed, he exhorts them to get in on this [fake] monetary outpouring (even the example is wrong, as the only thing the Israelites likely sowed were crops for their masters and themselves, not money into the work of God!). Therefore, “Get to the phones, get to the phones” to make a pledge. As the saying goes, “It's all about the money.”

Listening to Hinn persuasively describe such a scenario certainly would uplift ones spirit if true, but it is just as much a work of enticing deception as the previous prophecies that have failed. Hafez Al-Assad has died (June 10, 2000) His son became president of Syria. No peace treaty with Syria has taken place, let alone with almost the entire Middle East (Hinn also stressed this would include Iraq). Benny Hinn later explained on a TBN program the tremendous failure of his prophesied peace treaty (and by implication the tremendous revival it would set in motion) by saying he “expected” it to happen and then stating " ...it was God's will for to it not to happen, really." If such an assured prophecy (I'm telling you it's going to happen, no question about it”) which was designed to inspire multitudes to give in order to get, can be so easily dismissed as “not being God's will, really,” where does this leave Biblical prophecy? Time after time we see Biblical prophets, major and minor, declaring things that come to pass, without failure. Indeed, a prophecy in the name of the Lord carries with it the surety of His name and authority, so that it must and will come to pass according to any established conditions. The only time a prophecy may not come to pass as predicted is if it carried with it an implicit (or explicit) condition, such as was in the case of Jonah, where the whole purpose of his God-commissioned preaching was in order to get people to repent. It was a warning prediction, with the understanding that if they would heed the warning, humble themselves and heartily repent, it could be avoided, just as Jer. 18:7+8 promises. Jonah understood it's conditional nature, which is why he rebelled from doing it (Nineveh being Israel's enemy). And so the Gentiles glorified God for His mercy (cf. Rm. 15:9). In contrast, in the prophet Jeremiah's mission nothing would change the Divine decree of Almighty God (so far gone were they), but they were told what to do in order to lessen the severity of their just and necessary chastisement (Jer. 40:7). But there were no conditions, implicit or explicit, attached to Hinn's prophecies that offer a way to explain their unfulfillment. A specific time was often given, a combination which makes the fact of their failure even more inescapable, and Hinn's explanation that it simply “wasn't God's will, really” confesses as much, but is no Biblical explanation. Under the Old covenant, the false prophet would die for speaking in the name of the Lord something that failed to come to pass as predicted (Dt. 18:20-22; Jer. 20:6; 28:11-17).

Where does this leave Benny Hinn. Is he sincere? Apparently. Persuasive? Indeed. A True prophet or teacher? Most assuredly NOT! Is God speaking such prophecies through him? Not the God of the Bible! Though Benny Hinn descriptively claims to see Jesus who speaks to him (as well as seeing saints in Heaven who did likewise), yet never before have so many detailed and chronicled prophecies by a man having such a large audience in the Body of Christ so obviously failed. Not that he is alone. Kenneth Hagin also predicted a like mighty revival for the fall of 1999. And the list of many other false teachers and prophets goes on. Yet they continue to gain followers as they continue to do promote deception! As it was in the time of Jeremiah so it seems now: “The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?” (Jer. 5:31).

Though i think Benny Hinn comes across as one totally sincere, likable, even innocent, it is abundantly evident that Benny Hinn is by no means a true prophet of God, nor a faithfully true teacher of His Word, and as such he must be rejected as one.

IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?

Jer. 29:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. 9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

Ezek 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

We are commanded to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints,” and to “overcome evil [and Hinn's errors documented here are just that] with good” (Jude 3; Rm. 12:29). This writer seeks to do both, though I have a long way to go in heart and in deed.

It is a great detriment to the body of Christ and the true worship of God, and to a world in need of Christ, when Christians give credence to men “speaking perverse things.” It is my prayer that such will search and try their ways and repent. And that the body of Christ will not look to men speaking “smooth things,” and who “prophesy deceits” (Is. 30:10), but to men who seek to be like the apostles who preached the “all the counsel of God” (Acts 20:27), and labored to be pure from the blood of all” (Acts 20:19), and who could say we “have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God” (2Cor. 4:2). As the true Spirit filled early church loved God and each other and went everywhere preaching the gospel, so must we seek to be and to do. To God be the glory.

Our response then to the problem of false apostles, etc. in addition to warning them and others, should be for us to be committed to sound doctrine, to treasure the Word of God and prove all things by it in obedience to Col. 3:16 and 1 Ths. 5:21. We need to labor in earnest prayer and preaching for the Lord to be exalted in Spirit and in truth, as in the primitive church and other times of true God-sent revival. This shall work for the sanctification of saints and salvation of souls, to the glory and honor of Almighty God.

I close with a few more pertinent Scripture texts.

HEAR AGAIN THE WORD OF THE LORD, YE WHO “LOVE VANITY, AND SEEK AFTER LEASING [LYING] (Ps. 4:2)?,

Dt. 18:20-22 BUT THE PROPHET, WHICH SHALL PRESUME TO SPEAK A WORD IN MY NAME, WHICH I HAVE NOT COMMANDED HIM TO SPEAK, OR THAT SHALL SPEAK IN THE NAME OF OTHER GODS, EVEN THAT PROPHET SHALL DIE. And if thou say in thine heart, HOW SHALL WE KNOW THE WORD WHICH THE LORD HATH NOT SPOKEN?

WHEN A PROPHET SPEAKETH IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, IF THE THING FOLLOW NOT, NOR COME TO PASS, THAT IS THE THING WHICH THE LORD HATH NOT SPOKEN, BUT THE PROPHET HATH SPOKEN IT PRESUMPTUOUSLY: THOU SHALT NOT BE AFRAID OF HIM.

Rev 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast TRIED THEM WHICH SAY THEY ARE APOSTLES, AND ARE NOT, AND HAST FOUND THEM LIARS:

Those who censure men of God who expose the false prophesies spoken under the “anointing” Mr. Hinn claimed to be under while speaking such, actually oppose the Lord who sets His face against those who blatantly make such false predictions:

Ezek 13:4-10 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. THEY HAVE SEEN VANITY AND LYING DIVINATION, SAYING, THE LORD SAITH: AND THE LORD HATH NOT SENT THEM: AND THEY HAVE MADE OTHERS TO HOPE THAT THEY WOULD CONFIRM THE WORD. HAVE YE NOT SEEN A VAIN VISION, AND HAVE YE NOT SPOKEN A LYING DIVINATION, WHEREAS YE SAY, THE LORD SAITH IT; ALBEIT I HAVE NOT SPOKEN? THEREFORE THUS SAITH THE LORD GOD; BECAUSE YE HAVE SPOKEN VANITY, AND SEEN LIES, THEREFORE, BEHOLD, I AM AGAINST YOU, SAITH THE LORD GOD. AND MINE HAND SHALL BE UPON THE PROPHETS THAT SEE VANITY, AND THAT DIVINE LIES: THEY SHALL NOT BE IN THE ASSEMBLY OF MY PEOPLE, NEITHER SHALL THEY BE WRITTEN IN THE WRITING OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL, NEITHER SHALL THEY ENTER INTO THE LAND OF ISRAEL; AND YE SHALL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD GOD. BECAUSE, EVEN BECAUSE THEY HAVE SEDUCED MY PEOPLE, SAYING, PEACE; AND THERE WAS NO PEACE; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar:

Jer 23:16, 21-32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD. Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

Rev 22:14, 5 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, AND WHOSOEVER LOVETH AND MAKETH A LIE.

Jude 1:20-25 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.

ARE ALL THE GIFTS FOR TODAY?

1 Corinthians 13:8: Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I hope I have done a somewhat adequate job in exposing the deception of at least one false prophet. And though usually such exposures of false Pentecostals are done by “cessationists” such as most or all of the sites I referenced, i do not hold that the “sign gifts” of 1 Corinthians 12 (such gifts as healing) are not for today, though misuse and aberrations abound. Though i have read arguments that support the cessationists position and which have some merit, in examining the express descriptions of what shall result from the coming of “that which is perfect” which marks the cessation of such things as tongues (1Cor. 13:8-13), i do not see the revelation promised therein as pertaining to the completed canon of Scripture We still “see through a glass darkly,” not due to the inspired transmission of the Word of God but because of inhibited reception this side of the resurrection. Rather i believe the coming of that which is perfect refers to the full revelation (thus in the neuter) of the Lord Jesus prmosed in 1 john 3:2, and that it is then we shall see “face to face” and “know even as we are known,” even as “we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” Thus i think we are wrong if we give God a dispensational “rest” from working as He did in the early church in conferring gifts on men, and or put the Book of Acts in a museum (though i am hardly an example of a Spirit filled Peter myself, for which fullness i pray). As Jonathan Edwards advised, “ We ought not to limit God where he has not limited himself” (Jonathan Edwards On Revival, p. 89).

However, such a doctrinal position in no ways validates aberrations such as abound in so many (or most) Pentecostal churches, much less the heresies of Hinn. Yet the problem with allowing even any Pentecostal manifestations of God's power and grace through gifted believers is that we face the danger of both fleshly and demonic counterfeits. Moses at first realized this problem in his day, in which the magicians duplicated the first 3 miracles done through him (Ex. 8). And while those who seek to prevent aberrations by excluding such may be “safer,” but they also work a form of negative “sterility,” for in excluding miraculous spiritual gifts one not only excludes counterfeits but also the genuine to the detriment of souls (which counterfeits also effect). In both cases the Holy Spirit of Grace and Truth is grieved. The correct balance can be seen in 1 Cor. 14 wherein the apostle Paul, faced with misuse of spiritual gifts, neither excluded gifts nor allowed undisciplined services, but laid down clear rules to ensure order within expression, to "Let all things be done decently and in order" (1Cor. 14:40). The holy balance between limits and liberty is a mark of maturity and harder to come by. The more undisciplined a church is then the less liberty it can handle and the more authority it needs overseeing it, and with all the aberrations today it is not surprising that the more stable churches are those that disallow the signs gifts altogether. The norm today is usually a type of ecclesiastical anarchy or formalized rigidity, both of which fail of the power, purity and passion of the primitive church. The holy exercise of true spiritual liberty is a mark of those who walk “in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost” and so are multiplied (Acts 9:31). The overall Biblical and balanced approach to misuse is not to simply refute sinful aberrations and disorder, or disallow anything that is in Scripture but my be misused, but to overcome deceit with truth, the counterfeit with the true, the indecent with the holy. May we “sing ye praises with understanding “(Ps. 47:7) and worship God in Spirit and in Truth (Jn. 4:24). Amen.
